January is NOT the time to make resolutions

It’s not the right time. Let me explain.

January is a season of rest – Winter, and it doesn’t finish as the clock strikes midnight at the end of the year. You know that I know that we are not stupid.

What we are is influenced by consumerism. Tell me how many adverts did you see with the theme of change, a new you for the new year? How many of them were offering a new body? Become a better you, a new person…………..

Now think of every resolution you and everyone you know who has given up – usually my Feb/Mar?

And how many resolutions require you to sign up for something or some subscription?

So when is the best time to set any life-changing decisions?

At the start of a new year – when waking is prevalent. March the Spring Equinox.

At this time you will naturally feel more energized – think of spring cleaning and why it happens in the spring.

This is the time to start those changes and when you do, you are in a better place to continue with them not while you are in the midst of darkness, and rest.

Now that is not to say that you can not do anything.  What I am saying is that you do activities that are compatible with this time of the year.

For me, I take things much slower.

My presence on social media will reduce to more engagement but my planning and ideation increases.

I do more crafting, candle making, knitting, drawing, book ideas – these are the activities that increase.

Around my home, I will sort through my crap – throw things out (essentially I prepare for the spring clean and get rid of things no longer serving me).

I look at my overall strategy and lay the foundations for it usually in my biz planning book Purple Blaze and Riven.

But what about consistency? I hear you scream.

Well, you get to decide what that looks like and there is nothing stopping you from changing this to match the seasons.  Winter months may look like:

👍 One long-form blog/post, turned into smaller pieces, videos, images etc per week.
👍 It may mean more questions to your community
👍 It may mean more engagement than posting.
👍 It may mean more going into community membership spaces than social.
👍 It may mean more informal videos.

Go back through your notes and find inspiration to create one long-form post and several offshoots Lightening is perfect for this

The point is to match your energy so that when it awakens you are in a position to run.

❓ So what do you think – Am I crazy for thinking this way?
