That’s the question I was faced with when I decided I wanted to make my journals and notebooks.
The low-content market looks like that time I tried to squeeze my back fat into a corset, whichever way I squeezed either my tits fell out or an abundance of skin on my back flopped out.
Go see for yourself, (not my back fat) there are millions upon squillions of notebooks, filled with lines. The only difference is the cover.ย
You can get whatever cover you fancy, motivational quotes, flowers, statements, butterflies the list goes on. Each of them are no more than 120 pages. There is a good reason for that (Profit margin).
BUT I knew I wanted to be different
Journal Studies
I spent 3 intensive days locked in my studio, soaking up tutorials, examples, and research. Learning everything I could about building my own journals. Then I had to find my WHY.
Why would people pick me over another book? What is going to make me stand out?
Against most people’s advice, I started with what I would like to have from a notebook (hell it worked for Tommy Hilfiger, he started out making the jeans he wanted to wear).
I started with ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ฆ, Lush, delicious details. That’s what I want from a journal that will hold my precious thoughts and ideas.
Feeling the journal
When someone holds my book I want them to feel something, to smile as they notice the details that scatter the cover and throughout the book itself.ย

- ๐ The back is like a novel would be – a brief overview of the book
- ๐ A different shade of purple
- ๐ The meaning of the book’s name on the first page
- ๐ A welcome on the first page
- ๐ QR codes to social media profiles and museletter sign-up
- ๐ The name on the spine
- ๐ Space for the date on the spine
- ๐ Most have a dragonfly on the inside, – big story behind that
- ๐ All notebooks or journals would have 150 pages minimum – (I wanted the book name on the spine and that was more important than profit).
