Today we are going to discuss a question that regularly lands in my inbox, a variation of “How can I stop writing or venting the same things every day in my journal?”. It is too easy to keep ranting over the same issues, I absolutely get it – so how do we stop? Let’s take a look…………………….
Ask good questions, get better answers
Grab a copy of Cosmical to get your hands on over 400 prompts for all areas of life.
It’s easy to do – wallow in the negativity or only ever turning to your journal to vent.
Don’t get me wrong though – I vent in my journal, and I will encourage you to do so too……….
…………….BUT it comes with an osmium-level warning.
Journal your way out – DON’T GET STUCK IN A RUTT
Here are my ideas to avoid a venting rut
💜 When you notice regular themes in your venting – do something about it
💜 Journal twice as much good stuff as you vent
That first one is easy to write out but how do you do it?
Set yourself a number – how many times have you written about this? 3, 4, 8 times? At what point do you want to set a trigger?
Once you hit that number, grab a separate piece of paper or notebook and start asking questions:
❓What is the core issue?
❓What steps can I take to stop it? List out all your options.
❓What step will I take first?
❓What support do I need?
If you want a whole load of questions then check out Cosmical, it has over 400 covering all areas of life.
Make that first step a prompt in your journal, something along the lines of:
💜Today I will ………………………………………………
💜Today I …………………………………. And it felt uncomfortable/great. Tomorrow I will do the same/take the next step
💜Today I worked on ……………………… and need to start focusing on ……………………………….
🔥Hot tips for separation. As I have noted I do vent in my journal however, I keep a separate journal (Expellaruptus was created for this purpose) for this.
💜 Keep your venting in a separate book
💜 Keep your venting book out of sight
There is nothing wrong with having journals for different purposes (I have an entire system supporting all areas of my growth) and having a separate one for my venting is a fantabulous solution.
It lives in a drawer so I don’t look at the negativity all the time.
So whilst I know I have a safe place to vent it’s not up in my grill all the time.
